"This issue has already been settled," Russia's envoy to Syria said MOSCOW, July 19./TASS/. There are no pro-Iranian armed units in the south of Syria, Russian Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Kinshchak told reporters on Thursday. "This issue has already been settled. I have repeatedly heard from different sources that there are no pro-Iranian, Shiite units in the south of Syria," he said. In July 2017, Russia, the US and Jordan coordinated the setting up in the southwest of Syria a de-escalation zone that incorporated three southernmost provinces of the country - Daraa, Quneitra and Suwayda. The decisions envisage a certain sequence of action, as a result of which no non-Syrian forces will remain in that area. Israel and the US have repeatedly insisted that the region be free not only of Iran’s military, but also pro-Iranian Shiite unites.
